I grew up in Aurora, IL where I learned to play the game by marching around the course with anyone who would play with me. A lot of the time, I circled the course alone while listening to Cubs games between shots and dreaming of winning the Masters and the US Open. My senior year at West Aurora High School, I earned All- American honors. With those dreams of Tour stardom floating in my brain, I headed to the West Coast where I played for Santa Clara University. I was captain of the Bronco golf team and was also named an Academic All-American my junior and senior seasons. After graduation, I put over 160,000 miles on a Toyota minivan that sometimes doubled as a hotel room while playing professional golf tournaments on the Canadian Tour, the Hooters Tour, and a bunch of other Tours that aren't the PGA Tour. I didn't win as often as I did in High School or College. I set some course records, but I also missed a lot of cuts. I made it through a couple stages of Q-School, but I never made the big show. That was my lifelong dream. I got close, but it didn't happen. What did happen was a deeper understanding of the causes of success and failure.
My new goal is to use those experiences to help people play the best golf of their lives. Well actually, that's my secondary goal. The main goal is to help people enjoy the game like never before. It doesn't matter to me whether you're a tour pro or a beginner. The goal is the same. Find your best swing. Play your best golf. And most importantly, enjoy the ride.
